Filipino gymnastics, women’s boxing world champs to meet with Duterte
MANILA, Philippines – Gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo, who gave the Philippines its first-ever gold medal in the 41st FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championship, and Nesthy Petecio, who captured the gold medal in the Women’s World Boxing Championship featherweight division, are scheduled to meet with President Rodrigo Duterte in Malacañang on Wednesday.
“[T]hey will be meeting with the President. They will have a courtesy call,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a Palace briefing.
Yulo, who earlier booked a ticket to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, beat seven other finalists to claim the men’s floor exercise crown at Hans Schleyer Halle in Stuttgart, Germany last Saturday.
Petecio ruled the featherweight division after beating hometown bet Liudmila Vorontsova of Russia on Sunday. /gsg
