MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine boxing contingent is back in the country after its medal-laden campaign in the Tokyo Olympics.
The team, led by silver medalists Nesthy Petecio and Carlo Paalam, arrived at NAIA Terminal 2 on Monday at 4:28 p.m. Petecio was the Philippines’ flag-bearer during Sunday’s closing ceremony.
Of the four boxers who competed at the Games, only Irish Magno, who was booted out in the women’s flyweight Round of 16, failed to make the podium.
Middleweight Eumir Marcial added a bronze to the haul.

Determined to win deliver Philippine boxing’s first gold, all four pugs have already expressed their intention to qualify for the next Olympics which will be staged in Paris, France in 2024.
Overall, the Philippine delegation took home four medals, highlighted by Hidilyn Diaz’s crowning moment as the women’s 55kg champion in weightlifting.
Diaz became the first Filipino to win Olympic gold, ending the country’s 97-year quest.
The Tokyo Games also marked the first time that the Philippines claimed four medals in a single Olympic run.
In Los Angeles 1932, the Philippines had three medalists in high jumper Simeon Toribio, bantamweight boxer Jose Villanueva and swimmer Teofilo Yldefonso, who each bagged a bronze.
