MANILA, Philippines—San Miguel Beer team manager Gee Abanilla made it clear that acquiring the services of Rodney Brondial was done accordingly.

Brondial bolted Alaska after the two sides reportedly failed to come to terms on a deal.

The Aces reportedly offered Brondial a two-year extension but the big man opted to be released and become a free agent.

“We didn’t poach Rodney,” Abanilla told PBA Rush. “It was a similar situation which happened to Gab Banal where the player opted not to sign the contract extension offer and decided to become a free agent.”

Gab Banal declined a one-conference extension offer by Alaska to turn to free agency and ended up signing with powerhouse TNT two months ago.

As per Abanilla, the free agency opened the door for Brondial to reunite with his former college coach in Leo Austria at San Miguel.
