MANILA, Philippines—Caelum Harris, a Filipino-American high school prospect, has been tapped to beef up Gilas Pilipinas national team program, Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas announced Thursday.

Harris, a 6-foot-7 small forward, plays for Stewarts Creek High School in Tennessee and the 16-year-old is set to join the national team in March.

With his family originating from Marigondon, Cebu, Harris lives with his grandmother, who’s been responsible in teaching them Filipino culture, in Tennessee.

Harris also travels to Cebu regularly in the summer to spend time with his extended family.

“We’re very seriously building for the future and having Caelum is just the first step in this direction,” said SBP President Al Panlilio.

Gilas head coach Chot Reyes said he’s looking forward to Harris bringing his versatility and explosiveness to the team and eventually becoming a constant figure in the Gilas system.
